C. Seek assurance that the
company that is conducting your search knows and
understands your special needs.
D. Be prepared to enter
additional program to retain status if you begin your
search with one year or less before finishing your
program. A waiver process is quite time consuming and does
not even begin until you sign a contract.
How do I find the right
company to conduct my search?
Make sure that you
speak directly to the person that will be representing
you. They should be willing to take the time to answer
your questions and consult with you over the phone. Ask
for references.
What
is a medically underserved area (which qualifies for a waiver)?

Medically
underserved areas which would qualify for waivers
are defined by boundaries that are either counties
or census tracks, which have a statistically low
doctor-to-population ratio. The qualifying numbers
vary from state to state. For example: 1 doctor to
3000 people or more. |

What
is a sponsor?
There are four (4)
organizations that can sponsor a waiver:
1)
State - Provided they have a program in force
2)
ARC - Where applicable
3) HHS
4_Veteran Administration (VA)
When
is the best time to begin my job search?
Typically a job search
should begin 10 to 14 months before the completion of your
program.
How
long should I wait between interviews?
If, after interviewing,
a contract is not offered within one week, the employer is
usually uncertain and may be conducting additional
interviews. At that time your search should be reinstated
as a precautionary measure.
What should I do while my
search is being conducted?
A. You too, should
actively search
B. Stay in close contact with the company conducting the
search
C. Prepare yourself for a successful interview
D. Have additional information and references
(personal and professional) if and when needed.
What should I do once my contract
is signed?
If you are an American
born/trained physician and/or Green Card
holder...Celebrate!
If you are a physician with waiver issues...assist future
employer, attorney and search firm as best you can. Stay
in contact with your attorney. |
